For the last few years I have been pretty monotonous with my skincare routine. In the last year, as I am now turning 24 (so old) and have watched several beauty vlogs, I decided it is time to splurge and get adventurous. It is good to change up your skincare products every once in a while to give your skin a break. However, do not believe that you need to go out and buy all new skincare products, you can be like me and think “if it isn’t broken why fix it?”. Keep in mind there are TONS of amazing skincare products out there that are definitely worth trying! If you are looking to try a few new products out here are 6 of my new favorite skincare products!
My heavy bronzer and one-dimensional skin days are behind me. In the past year, I have learned how to properly contour my skin. That being said I still felt I needed a powder for full coverage following my foundation. I am not a fan of powder foundation, so I use this as more of a finishing powder and to set my liquid foundation. That being said after applying my foundation, I use my Real Techniques powder brush and apply this powder in circular motions all over my face and neck. The IT Cosmetics Perfecting Powder truly leaves a noticeable difference. Your skin will look even, it will hide noticeable imperfections, and will give you an “airbrushed” finish. After I have finished applying the perfecting powder, I move onto my powder contour. DO NOT use any cream or liquid contour products after applying the perfecting powder. If you use liquid or cream products for contouring apply those first, creamy products on top of powder does not make for a good combination.
The Arcona ‘Triad Toner Pads’ was the first prestigious skin product I ever purchased and still remains my favorite. The Arcona brand was introduced to me by the girls in my department at Nordstrom. Previously I had stuck to my Clean & Clear cleanser and toner, which seemed to be working just fine. After being introduced to the Triad pads I will never go back. The triad pads are created with pure and natural ingredients. Their purpose is to protect and clarify skin using antimicrobial cranberry, vitamins, and essential acids. The pads are great as a stand alone cleansing pad and also are awesome at removing makeup. I use them once a day either in the morning when I wake up as a substitute for my cleanser or at night before bed. They are perfect for travel if you do not like to carry your whole skincare routine. The pads can also be cut into halves to save money, as they are a little large. They can also be really refreshing in the summer if kept in the fridge.
I have only had it for a little over a week however, I am really loving it! I saw several beauty bloggers on Instagram raving about this moisturizer and thought I have to try this out. It is super rich and creamy and smells AMAZING! I use this as a nighttime moisturizer, as it is a little thicker. I believe it is really hydrating and I wake up with softer smoother skin each night I use it. During the day, I still find that my Neutrogena moisturizer is my favorite moisturizers as it is super light weight. I love that it is also an anti-aging moisturizer as well. The only thing I really do not like about this product is that it comes in a jar. I would much prefer a bottle with a pump or even a squeeze tube that you don’t need to dip your fingers in each time.
I discovered the Philosophy Purity Cleanser via Jaclyn Hill, who raves about this cleanser in one of her videos. The purity cleanser is a daily facial wash that has a light rose scent (smells like a relaxing spa). The cleanser bubbles quickly and removes any dirt and excess makeup, leaving your skin feeling fresh and baby soft. Jaclyn Hill claims that she has pretty dry skin in her videos, I would have to say I have combination skin, and the product works great for us both. The Purity Cleanser has been an Allure Readers Choice from 2007-2015. It is a little pricey, but I assure you it is worth every penny. I use it once a day either when I wake up or before bed, alternating with my Arcona Triad Pads.
This is by far one of my favorite beauty purchases this year. I have had a love-hate relationship with my Tarte Amazonian clay foundation. The color is absolutely perfect, the coverage is awesome, however, it is just too damn thick. I noticed after watching several beauty vlogs that a lot of the vloggers had been adding oil to their foundation or contouring products. I decided to try out the travel size of the tarte Maracuja Oil based on a recommendation from my cousin Marissa. Wow did it change the way I do my foundation. Simply squeeze out a small drop of your foundation onto the back of your hand. Add 1-2 drops of the oil on top of the foundation. Use either your finger or a beauty blender to mix the oil and foundation together. Dab the foundation on your finger or beauty blender onto your face. Dip your beauty blender or foundation brush onto your hand and rub in the foundation onto your face like you usually will. Not only is the maracuja oil really good for your skin, it improves the longevity of the foundation on your face and in the bottle. It makes your foundation look lighter, instead of really thick (especially the Tarte foundation which is clay based).
I have a difficult time splurging on face masks. I have one go-to face mask that I splurged on for brightening- Peter Thomas Roth Brightening Bubbling Mask $55. If you have not tried it, I definitely recommend it, it is like an at home spa treatment (I’ll save details for a later post). Whether you are looking to brighten your skin or rid imperfections, it is really difficult to find a facial mask that fits all of your individual needs. The reason I love the Que Bella face masks is because they are single masks for $1.99! Que Bella offers a WIDE variety of different masks that are sure to fit your needs. I love the Purifying Tea Tree Mask, that is used to draw out impurities and eliminates excess oil. If you are looking for a relaxing mask, try out the Relaxing Lavender Aromatherapy Mask, that helps to de-stress and pamper your skin using lavender essential oils. If you are in need of a peel-off mask to remove dead skin – Clarifying Cucumber Peel Off. One of my absolute favorites for hydrating and moisturizing – Coconut Cream Mask. For makeup removal, dead skin removal, and a fresh glow – Cherry & Apricot Exfoliating Cleanser.
