Who is ready to turn over a new leaf and begin Fall 2016? As much as I love lounging by the pool and summer nights out, I am ready to embrace sweater weather. I have been browsing through TONS of magazines and shopping online to compile a list of the top trends for Fall 2016. Several of these trends you can start mixing into your wardrobe now; others (fisherman sweaters & wrap coats) can be saved for deeper into the season. I included a variety of steals and splurges so everyone can find pieces that will work with their budget. You can shop each of my Fall 2016 trend picks below by simply clicking on the picture. Leave comments and let me know what your favorite trends are for Fall 2016!
Fall fashion does not have to be high-end couture. Patches have been popping up on denim jackets and bags all over my Instagram feed. Grab an iron, have fun and customize your own denim jacket. There are tons of Etsy shops with adorable and affordable Patches. I recently purchased a bunch of patches from Wildflower and Company, definitely, check them out! Their patches are unique, fun, and at a great price point. How cool is this Cactus Iron On Embroidered Applique $5.00 and the Pizza Iron On Embroidered Applique $4.00? Wildflower and Company also has really cool pins which is another fun way to make a denim jacket 100% you.
Menswear Gone Feminine
Menswear has been a staple in the female wardrobe decades. Fall 2016 introduces a feminine twist of lace, ruffles, and floral prints on otherwise classic menswear pieces. The Halogen Lace Collared Sheath Dress in Black Lace $129.00 is an absolutely gorgeous dress for work to happy hour. Topshop’s Ruffled Cold Shoulder Shirt $65.00 adds a girly flair to a basic pinstripe blouse. Turning your “borrowed from the men” pieces into feminine basics can be a fun DIY craft. Head to a craft store and pick up some lace and pearls and get to work!
Dusty Shades & Fall Florals
Rose Quartz, Airy Blue, Sharkskin, Dusty Cedar, and Potter’s Clay are just a few of my favorite Pantone colors for Fall 2016. What I love about these colors is their dusty, cool, and earthy vibe that really sets the mood for fall. These colors will be everywhere this fall from stand alone solids to mixed in with floral and boho prints. AKIRA has a great selection of dusty tones like their AKIRA Ribbed Midi Skirt in Dusty Pink $19.90. AKIRA is one of my favorite places to shop for trendy pieces each season. They have really unique pieces that you won’t find anywhere else at an affordable price point. The Wayf ‘Townsend’ Long Sleeve Peasant Top in Beige Floral $59.00 pays tribute to Pantone’s dusty shades for Fall 2016 with boho style.
Step aside blazers, bomber jackets will add an edgy twist to any fall outfit. Bombers will be coming in all styles and materials this fall including floral, tweed, and some with tiny embellishments. Up your cool-girl vibe by ironing on your own patches. My mom purchased the Who What Wear Floral Bomber $34.99, which we will absolutely be sharing! I also adore the Zara Special Edition Embroidered Bomber in Green $169.00, the embroidery is so detailed and beautiful.
Platform shoes are back and making a statement! Platforms are not my favorite style, however, I think platform oxfords are a style that anyone can rock. C’mon how gorgeous are the Prada Winged Oxford in Metallic Silver? If you are looking for a budget-friendly alternative, the Shellys London ‘Emma’ Platform Oxford $119.95 are perfect.
Wrap coats are an ultra chic way to stay warm this fall. Play with fun colors such as this T Tahari Wool Blend Wrap Coat in Pale Blue $229.90. Make a statement with a pattern wrap coat like the Charles Gray London Plaid Wrap Coat $428.
Oh, sweater weather how we adore you! This seasons sweaters will make fall even comfier. It seems every designer has their version of a plush fisherman sweater this fall. Pair them with track pants, a pencil skirt, or over a floral dress for a not your grandpa’s fisherman sweater look. The J. Crew Factory Fisherman Cable Crewneck Sweater is your classic Fisherman sweater at a discount price of $72.00. L.L Beans signature collection is another great place to shop for fisherman sweaters. I am loving the color of the L.L Bean Signature Cotton Fisherman Sweater in Mountain Red $70.00.
It seems like feline prints never go out of style, do they? Big name designers such as Stella McCartney, Gucci, and Alexander Wang are putting feline prints on blazers, skirts, handbags, and shoes. The fashion world really can not get enough of animal prints. The best advice I was ever given on how to wear animal prints was, “wear it like a basic”. If you are looking to really invest in one feline print for fall check out this drool-worthy Stella McCartney Cheetah Jacquard Dress $1,515.00. The Forever 21 Leopard Print Skater Dress $24.90 is an adorable and affordable alternative.
The choices for lipstick shades are endless these days. From blacks, blues, purples, and bright oranges, there is no color that is bizarre. Mix it up this fall and try out a new shade. Trade in your basic red for a deep vampire red shade like the Urban Decay ‘Vice Lipstick’ in Hex $17.00. Fuchsia bright berry colors like the Tarte Tartiest Creamy Matte Lip Paint in Twerk $20.00 are very in for Fall. If you are feeling daring try out a metallic black or matte deep blue.
A basic blowout is boring! Fall 2016 hairstyles won’t be complete without a braid, hat, or delicate hairpins. If you typically rock hats, experiment with fun colors or different styles. The Nordstrom Anniversary had a few steals for fall hats. My favorite is the Hinge Flat Brim Wool Hat now $48. Glam up your look by having fun with these Tasha Embellished Bobby Pins $20.00.
Unless you have been living under a rock these last few months, you know that the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Eyeshadow Palette $45.00 is slaying the eyeshadow palette game. The warm orange, berry, and brown shades give off what I like to call a “sunset eye” look. If you were able to get your hands on this palette, head to YouTube and check out the endless looks inspired by beauty vloggers. Another great palette to create “sunset eyes” is the Lorac Refined Romance Palette $18.00. This palette includes 6 warm tone eyeshadows, 2 highlighters, and a gorgeous blush. This palette was exlcusive to the Nordstrom Anniversary sale, so I am not too sure if you will be able to still get it.
Short Strap Shoulder Bags
Short strap shoulder bags scream high-fashion. Their structured clean look can pull together any outfit. How gorgeous is the Zara Contrast Mini City Bag $36.00? The Mini City bag also has a crossbody strap for when you aren’t feeling the short handle. Two-way straps are also a super popular trend for Fall 2016 bags. Likewise, the MICHAEL Michael Kors ‘Medium Ingrid’ Leather Shoulder Bag in Cement $298.00, perfect for day to night, has dual straps as well.
Striped bags are an easy way to add a sophisticated pop of color to any outfit. My absolute favorite striped bag for fall is the Cynthia Rowley Hudson in Navy $125.00. The Hudson satchel ties together Pantone’s Fall 2016 colors Lush Meadow and Bodacious. Due to the back order, I should be receiving mine early September! If you are looking for something bolder, the Tory Burch ‘Kensington’ Stripe Faux Leather Tote $275.00 is stunning! This bag puts together 3 of falls hottest trends in just one leather tote. Blue’s and Reds will also be HUGE for fall and this bag ties in Pantone’s Fall 2016 colors Riverside, Airy Blue, and Potter’s Clay.
Slouchy bags are back and in rich and luxurious leathers. If you are on the fence about the slouchy bag trend, the Loeffler Randall Suede Hobo in Dark Gray $425 is your go to. The suede gives off the slouchy cool-girl look but is not too slouchy turning into a garbage bag mess inside (we have all been there). The Steve Madden ‘B Kailyn’ Faux Leather Satchel in Berry $88.00 is an affordable alternative in a striking fall dusty shade.
